5 Halloween Costumes and Celebrations

Halloween is one of my favorite Holidays. Even though it is mainly celebrated in the US, some places around the world join in the frightful festivities and one night of tricks or treats.

The word "Halloween" comes from "All Hallows' Eve" and means "hallowed evening." The tradition of Halloween originated in the 18th century with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain where people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts and evil spirits. Halloween has increased in popularity within the last 30 years and many places across Europe join in the frightful festivities. Wherever you may be in the world, celebrate this night with 5 fun costume and celebration ideas.

Dress Up

Regardless if you plan on going out or staying in, try one of these fun costume Ideas:

- Sugar Mama or Sugar Daddy (Strap candy or a bag of sugar on the chest in a baby carrier)

- French Kiss (Wear a striped shirt with KISS rock band makeup)

- Shrimp on the Barbie (Shrimp hat and Barbie shirt)

- Dude with a Sign (Wear a black shirt, glasses, carry cardboard sign)

- Barbie and Ken (Wear pink)

- Comic Book Character (Animated face makeup)

- French Toast (Beret, striped shirt, hang bread around the neck)

- Glass of Champagne (Sparkly clothing)

- Corona Virus (Write virus on a shirt, hang coronas around the neck or on your belt)

Make a Spooky Snack

Try out my GF Pumpkin Banana Bread recipe or one of these festive snacks:

- Mummy Milanos: When you’re in a pinch, there’s nothing wrong with ripping open a bag of cookies and adding your own spooky twist. This recipe turns Milanos into mummies with the help of some melted white chocolate. (via Chelsea’s Messy Apron)

- Sushi Balls, Halloween Style: These eerie sushi balls are way easier to put together than sushi rolls and require a lot less skill and equipment. It’s also mess-free! (via Chopstick Chronicles)

- Brownie Spiders: These little cuties are the perfect last-minute snack to put together if you’re less into gory-ness and more into adorably-ness. Feeling iffy over the commitment of baking? Don’t sweat it — these are done in 35 minutes. (Gimme Some Oven)

- Witch Finger Pretzels: As far as quick and simple snacks go, you can’t compete with dipping already delicious pretzels into already delicious chocolate. The best part of these treats is that they come out looking gruesome and amazing. (via Simply Sated)

- Roasted Pumpkin Seed Hummus: Homemade hummus is *so* much better than the store-bought and it’s easy to make. In less than 30 minutes, you’ll be ready to rock with a bright orange Halloween hummus. (Half Baked Harvest)

- White Chocolate Ghosts and Mummies: It’s hard to find anything cuter than ghost-themed desserts these sweet boos are easy to make and need to chill for 30 minutes, so you can place them in the fridge while you get dressed in your costume! (Mitzy At Home)

Carve Pumpkins

What is Halloween without pumpkins and jack-o-lanterns?

Have a carving contest at home or via zoom with your best friends. Be sure to save the pumpkin seeds to roast afterwards or to make the Roasted Pumpkin Seed Hummus recipe above. They are also great as a banana bread topping.

Go Apple Picking or Visit the Pumpkin Patch

Nothing is more fall or festive than heading out into that fresh fall air!
